This petition seeks justice for a personal tragedy that occurred in Davenport, IA on August 21, 2024. It began as a regular day until Officer Ethan Bock responded to a call in Davenport about 4 aggressive dogs causing a problem. Not only was he at the wrong house, Instead of professionally trying to manage the situation, he unjustly shot and killed the beloved family dog Mysty, WHILE potentially putting the children who were innocently playing in the yard in the cross fire.

This recklessness and lack of effort to deescalate demonstrated by Officer Bock is unacceptable. His actions have caused this Davenport family an immense amount of grief, and endangered innocent children who were present during the incident. In 2020, the American Veterinary Medical Association reported that there are approximately 77 million dogs in homes throughout the United States. Many of these homes also have children present. The Officer's quick resort to violence poses a terrifying question about safety not only in our home, but potentially in the future homes he is called to respond to.

A police officer’s duty is to protect and serve their community. It's unacceptable for an officer to act recklessly, endangering the lives of innocent bystanders. The police department has a duty to hold their officers accountable for their actions. This petition calls for the Davenport Police Department to reprimand Officer Ethan Bock for his lack of care and effort in his police work.
