The Issue

Who makes the decisions, and who benefits?
The announcement of the Bayern Munich versus Ajax match at Raila Odinga International Stadium raises an important question: when major public investments are made, who decides, what informs those decisions, and what do ordinary Kenyans stand to gain?

As citizens, we deserve to know how these decisions are reached, what alternatives are considered, how the event will be financed, and what lasting benefits it will deliver. International prestige and exposure may have value, but they should not replace transparency, accountability and clear plans for our people.

Were Kenyan and African teams considered? Could this historic occasion have begun with a Kenyan derby, celebrating our own players, clubs and supporters before welcoming the world? I am calling for a historic Kenyan derby to be the first football match in the official inauguration programme, ahead of the European fixture, subject to existing contractual arrangements. If this is not possible, the government should explain why and commit to a historic domestic fixture within a clearly stated timeframe.

This is about more than football. It is about the opportunities created by public investment, the development of local talent, jobs for our youth, support for local enterprise, and decisions guided by evidence, consultation and a vision beyond the announcement.

To me, this is Africanicity in action: accountability for our resources, confidence in our talent, thoughtful planning, and the determination to ensure that what we build serves our people while engaging the world.

We are not alleging wrongdoing, nor are we rejecting international partnerships. We are asking for answers and a clear public legacy.

Join me in calling for transparency in the stadium's expenditure, disclosure of the process behind the inaugural fixture, a historic Kenyan derby, and a lasting plan that turns this national investment into opportunity for Kenyans and Africans.

Sign this public petition as we call on the National Assembly of Kenya to demand transparency, examine the decisions behind the inauguration of Raila Odinga International Stadium, and ensure that this national investment delivers lasting value for Kenyans.
