Demand Accountability for the Killing of Odis by Spokane tribal Police
The Issue
Odis wasn’t just a dog; he was family. A beloved member whose presence brought joy and warmth to our home in wellpinit, WA. His unnecessary and tragic death has left a significant void, causing grief and distress that words can hardly describe. On a day that should have been ordinary, two Spokane tribal Police officers took his life in our very own front yard by shooting him five times. This unspeakable act occurred without just cause or provocation, forever altering our family.
Our family demands justice for Odis and accountability for those responsible. It is inconceivable that officers, who are meant to serve and protect our community, could act with such reckless disregard for life. We call on the Spokane humane society along with help from the people who can conduct a thorough investigation into the actions of these officers and to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the process.
This is not just about Odis; it’s about ensuring no other family in Spokane has to suffer such a tragedy. We propose mandatory training for officers on handling encounters with pets and non-lethal methods of dealing with domestic animals. There must be clear guidelines that protect pets and penalize unwarranted use of force against them.
Statistics have shown that well-trained officers can safely manage encounters involving pets without resorting to violence. According to the ASPCA, approximately 38% of all American households have at least one dog. With numbers like these, family pets are a significant part of the societal fabric.
Holding these officers accountable will send a strong message that acts of cruelty and violence, especially towards defenseless animals, will not be tolerated in Spokane. We seek the support of our community to make this change, promoting a safer environment for all our furry companions.
Please join us in calling for justice for Odis. Ensure that those responsible are held accountable and that necessary measures are implemented to prevent future incidents. Sign this petition to voice your support.
