Demand accountability for police negligence and Release for Willie
The Issue
The City Of North Las Vegas Police Department has already faced scrutiny causing concerns to the Community of their Effectiveness in protecting the law abiding citizens. My fiancé, Willie E. Brown Jr., of North Las Vegas, Nevada has faced challenges throughout his life, beginning from a young age when he had several run ins with the law. Despite these early difficulties, Willie made a conscious decision to turn his life around. He dedicated himself to his faith, focusing on helping others in need, and deeply regretted not being there for his Mother during her battle with cancer. In his quest for redemption and to contribute positively to society, Willie helped started a productive business, called Boutique 4 U-B4UWB aiming to be a law-abiding, supportive member of the community.
Recently, Willie found himself in a disturbing situation where a call for help was met with dismissive negligence by law enforcement. During a conflict with a family member, that is wheel chair bound, but is armed with a gun. Willie reached out to the police for protection. When officers arrived, others at the location misleadingly informed them there was no issue, and Willie was not there, though he was actually hiding in a closet out of fear. He reached out again, seeking help, only to be told the officer wouldn’t return.
This avoidable negligence escalated into a tragic scene where Willie was forced into a confrontation, resulting in him reluctantly shooting his first cousin in self-defense. This entire episode marks a tragic and unnecessary stumbling block for someone striving to live a reformed life.
This petition calls for accountability from the North Las Vegas police officers who failed in their duty to protect and serve. Their negligence and refusal to provide assistance left Willie vulnerable and resulted in a situation that no abiding citizen should face. We demand an internal review of this incident, retraining of officers involved, and implementation of stricter protocols for responding to repeated calls for help, and the release of Willie Edward Brown on his own recognizance due to the fact that his due process has been violated in many ways. The courts deemed him competent and that was challenged, so he was supposed to go straight to the hospital, but he was sent to another floor at the jail, he acquired certificates deeming him not to be a threat to society, he was then sent out of the program and sent back to be among the competent population without going to the hospital or even getting an evaluation from a doctor or without being court ordered by a Judge before being released back to the competent population. Now his due process is being challenged, There are some protocols not being followed, so we are looking to a release on his on recognizance and dismissal of this case. Please sign the petition representing a loved one that has had a bad outcome with law enforcement negligence, and their process when being in jail or Prison.
We stand for justice and support for individuals like Willie, who are dedicated to turning their lives around and contributing positively to society. We urge the authorities to right this wrong and prevent similar situations from occurring in the future. Please sign this petition to hold law enforcement accountable and ensure justice for Willie E. Brown Jr.
