As you may have noticed, developer EVER RED cut down the entire tree line next to Dr. Margaret Ann Armour School right before the first day of school.

This vital green space sat directly on the boundary separating the school grounds from the future high-density EVER District commercial and residential site.

This clear-cutting happened with no notice to the school, no consultation with the community, and no environmental assessment.

The Impact:

-Wildlife Displaced: Local birds and wildlife relying on the canopy were forced out with zero warning right before the winter months. Established nesting areas reused every season were demolished. This territory loss has created tension between bird species, causing an increase in fighting and dead birds found nearby.

-Lost Play Space: Kids lost a natural buffer and a familiar play space they grew up with.

-Safety Concerns: Parents are now deeply worried about the sudden lack of a physical boundary between a busy schoolyard and an active, high-density construction zone.

This is part of a broader pattern rather than a one-off issue, as EVER RED has multiple developments planned across Edmonton.

Unannounced clear-cutting next to a school sets a concerning precedent.

What We Are Demanding:

-Environmental Impact Assessments prior to further clearing on all EVER RED projects in Edmonton.

-Mandatory Community and School Consultation ahead of major landscape alterations.

-A Remediation and Replanting Plan for the destroyed habitat.
