We, the undersigned, urgently petition for the establishment of a dedicated task force tasked with investigating, regulating, and overseeing the operations and compliance of cooperative housing corporations (co-ops) and condominium associations (condos) in New York City.

Recent events documented in the media, coupled with growing concerns arising from the operations and compliance of numerous cooperative housing corporations have raised serious alarm among residents and stakeholders. Instances of corruption, abuse, mismanagement, discrimination, harassment, conflict of interest, dereliction of duties, breach of fiduciary duties, and non-compliance with the law within co-ops and condos have highlighted a critical gap in regulatory oversight, leaving residents vulnerable to potential abuses and malpractices.

It is imperative that action be taken to address these deficiencies. We urge you to consider the following measures:

1. Thorough Investigations: Conduct comprehensive investigations into allegations of corruption, abuse, mismanagement, discrimination, harassment, conflict of interest, dereliction of duties, breach of fiduciary duties, and non-compliance with the law within co-op and condo communities.

2. Robust Regulatory Frameworks: Implement stringent regulatory frameworks to ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with industry standards.

3. Guidance and Support: Provide guidance and support to co-op and condo boards and management to enhance governance practices and mitigate risk.

4. Facilitate Communication: Foster communication and collaboration between government agencies, co-op and condo stakeholders, and advocacy groups to address systemic issues and enact meaningful reforms.

Establishing a task force dedicated to the regulation and oversight of co-op and condo communities will safeguard the interests of residents, protect the integrity of these communities, and uphold the principles of good governance and accountability. 

We urge you to give this matter your utmost attention and support the creation of a Co-op and Condo Oversight Task Force to address the pressing concerns of residents in New York City.

There is no reason for your constituents to be victimized by the actions of those unwilling to fulfill their duty and follow the law.
