Demand Accountability For Animal Neglect and Deaths at The Cheshire CT Pound

The Issue

Petition for Accountability and Change at the Cheshire Connecticut Animal Pound

We, the undersigned, call for immediate action regarding the neglect and abuse uncovered at the Cheshire Animal Control facility. The Department of Agricultures investigation revealed disturbing findings, including animals left without proper grooming, medical care, and living in unsanitary conditions, covered in urine and feces. Despite this, no meaningful action has been taken to address these issues or hold those responsible accountable.

Key Issues:

1. Lack of Accountability for Animal Control Officer April Leiler: The Animal Control Officer has continued in her role, enforcing neglect cases, despite being found negligent in her own duties.

2. Failure of Supervisory Oversight: Lt. Miller, her supervisor from the Cheshire Police Department, has not been held accountable for the failures in oversight that allowed these conditions to persist.

3. Inaction from Town Leadership: Town Manager Sean Kimball, Mayor Peter Talbot, and the Cheshire Town Council have failed to address this issue transparently, leaving residents with no answers, justice, or meaningful reform.

Our Demands:

1. Immediate Removal of ACO April Leiler from her position due to her demonstrated failure to fulfill the responsibilities of her role.

2. Immediate Removal of Lt. Miller for inadequate supervision and accountability within the Animal Control Office.

3. Transparency from Town Leadership: We demand a public statement from the Town Manager, Mayor, and Town Council addressing these issues and committing to change.

4. Implementation of Reforms: Establish measures to ensure proper oversight, humane treatment of animals, and accountability within the Cheshire Animal Control facility.

For months, residents have called for justice, transparency, and change. The silence from town leadership is unacceptable. We cannot stand by while vulnerable animals suffer due to neglect and systemic failures.

We urge the governing body of the Town of Cheshire to act now to restore trust in its public offices and ensure humane treatment for all animals in its care.
