In recent times, we have witnessed the tragic and shocking loss of a dedicated healthcare professional, Alex Pretti,  who was murdered under horrific circumstances. Despite their significant contributions to the field of healthcare, this individual's death has not been duly acknowledged by the AHA—a leading and respected organization.

The AHA has long been a pillar of support for professionals in the cardiovascular field, advocating for advancements in healthcare standards and policies. Unfortunately, their silence in this matter not only diminishes the contributions of the fallen but also sends a disheartening message to all healthcare workers—that their sacrifices and lives may not be honored in times of need.

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, healthcare workers are among the most vulnerable to workplace violence. This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the risks they face daily. The AHA must take a stand, not only to honor the memory of those we have lost but to also set an example of compassion and leadership.

We urge the AHA to acknowledge the death of this healthcare professional officially. Such recognition would not only preserve the dignity of the deceased but would also provide solace to their family and colleagues. Additionally, it is crucial for the AHA to reaffirm its commitment to supporting and protecting its members, particularly in cases of violence against healthcare workers.
