The Issue

We, Somalis living in the United States and across the diaspora, call for an immediate commitment to peace, accountability, inclusive governance, and the protection of civilians throughout Somalia.

We urge Somalia’s federal leadership to:

End military aggression and protect civilians: Stop actions that contribute to violence or collective harm against communities and regions, including the serious allegations of mass atrocities and possible genocide in South West State. We call for credible, independent investigations into allegations of abuses and for those responsible for crimes to be held accountable through lawful processes.

Ensure public resources serve the public: Somalia’s humanitarian aid, public funds, and locally generated revenues must be administered transparently and used for the benefit of the Somali people. Public resources should not be diverted for the benefit of political affiliates, relatives, or private interests.
Reverse exclusionary electoral arrangements: End selective or politically controlled electoral processes and establish a genuinely inclusive electoral framework. Future elections should be conducted through an independent process with appropriate domestic and international oversight, transparent procedures, and equal political participation.

Investigate land-related abuses: Establish an independent body to investigate allegations of unlawful land acquisition, dispossession, and fraudulent transfers. The investigation should identify individuals and entities involved, including where applicable members of the diaspora, and refer credible evidence to the appropriate judicial authorities for prosecution in accordance with the law.

Guarantee equal protection under the law: No individual—whether a government official, political ally, businessperson, member of the diaspora, or relative of a public official—should be above the law.
We call upon Somali institutions, civil society organizations, diaspora communities, and international partners to support peaceful, lawful, and transparent mechanisms for accountability and democratic governance.

Our demands are for peace, justice, transparency, civilian protection, and a political system that serves the Somali people rather than individuals or factions.

We support peaceful civic participation and reject violence, intimidation, collective punishment, and discrimination against any Somali community.
