Demand accountability and justice for the Astroworld Victims.
The Issue
On November 5, 2021 in Houston, Texas 10 people died at the Astroworld concert due to compression asphyxia, external pressure causing suffocation, which was caused by a “crowd crush” due to an overcrowded venue of approximately 50,000+ people in a 35k max capacity venue.”
We, the undersigned, are calling all Legislators, Courts, and public officials to re-examine the criminal accountability surrounding the Astroworld tragedy on November 5, 2021 which claimed 10 lives and injured hundreds. Yet, on June 29, 2023 a Houston jury decided not to indict Travis Scott or five others for criminal charges. This outcome ignores the extensive evidence of lack of action, negligence, and direct incitement to breach safety protocols.
For instance, there was the following:
- Visual awareness of danger: there is video evidence of Travis Scott continuing to perform while CPR was being administered, An ambulance visible in the crowd, with people screaming and even people being pulled out of the crowd, mere 10 feet from Travis Scott.
- Heard not heeded: In long pauses between tracks, with no bass or backing track. You can hear people screaming for help. Not distant screams, but 10-15 feet from the stage.
- Incitement prior to the event: Travis Scott tweeted multiple times all inciting people to sneak in with him tweeting. “This is for y’all” and “forget security.”
- Conflict of interest: It was also revealed that Travis Scott, owner of the record label, “cactus jack enterprises” had a 4.5 million dollar deal with Apple. The only stipulation was to complete the show. Also, due to him being the owner of the enterprise, Travis Scott had the legal authority to stop the show. yet he continued despite there being visual and auditory signs of distress.
- Oversold venue: It was told that Live Nation sold approximately 50k+ tickets for a 35k capacity venue. In addition to Travis Scott inciting people to sneak in, causing approximately 70-100k+ to fill the venue.
Not only should Travis Scott be held accountable for continuing the show, but Live Nation and local law enforcement need to be held accountable as well. The massive consistency of safety issues being ignored was, out of countless other instances, a reason why what happened that day happened the way it did.
Please sign this petition to pressure the court to reconsider this decision and take action for the victims families and get equal justice! Rest In
Peace to all of the victims, sending my deepest condolences to all the victims families and everyone involved.
