Demand Accountability and Fair Treatment for DCHA Residents and Families
The Issue
DC residents and families depend on the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) to administer housing programs accurately, fairly, and transparently. Concerns have been raised by residents, applicants, and program participants about administrative issues that may affect their housing and financial stability.
These concerns can include submitted paperwork being reported as missing or not received, repeated requests for the same documents, problems involving utility payments or utility allowances, housing assistance and eligibility decisions, recertifications, transfers, inspections, and difficulties obtaining responses to requests for hearings, reviews, or appeals.
In my own experience, I have repeatedly submitted requested documentation and followed up with DCHA regarding matters affecting my housing assistance. My experience has led me to ask whether other DC residents and families have encountered similar problems.
This petition calls for a thorough and transparent review of DCHA’s administrative practices, including how documents are received and tracked, how utility-related payments and housing assistance are processed, how residents are notified of decisions, and how requests for hearings, reviews, and appeals are handled.
We are asking that cases affected by identified administrative errors receive appropriate review and corrective action, and that DCHA implement reliable procedures so residents can confirm documents have been received and understand the status of their cases.
If you have experienced similar issues with DCHA, please sign this petition and share your experience. Do not post Social Security numbers, voucher numbers, dates of birth, or other private information publicly.
Signing this petition does not automatically make anyone part of a lawsuit or class action. This effort is intended to document concerns, request accountability, and help determine whether there may be broader issues affecting DC residents.
