Demand Accountability and Efficiency in Kettering's Road Repairs

Demand Accountability and Efficiency in Kettering's Road Repairs
The Issue
My experience is one echoed by many in our community. We're residents of Kettering and surrounding areas, and we've witnessed deterioration in our public roads, increasing taxes, worsening traffic and repeated, ineffectual patchwork repairs. This is more than an inconvenience, it's a legitimate public safety concern. Our roads are becoming dangerously filled with defects that could potentially impact driving safety and pose a risk to pedestrians.
This is aimed at our North Northamptonshire Council but if you wish to use this petition as a template for other councils please by all means do so.
Private companies are entrusted by our council with the task of these important repairs, yet the lack of proper auditing and planning means the roads are simply patched up, destined to crumble again soon. It's a gross waste of taxpayer's money, and it's impacting our daily living, our environment, and the safety of our streets.
We demand four main changes. Firstly, we call on authorities to investigate the spending on road repairs, allowing us taxpayers a full understanding of the cost implications. Secondly, private companies must be made to take responsibility for the failures of their inefficient repairs.
Next, we propose a temporary tax relief per street until the roads are adequately repaired. This measure would encourage prompt reporting and effective fixing of our roads. Lastly, we urge for the creation of a portal through which residents can seek reimbursement for damages to their vehicles, an unfortunate direct result of these poor road conditions.
It's time the council of Northamptonshire takes these issues seriously, and provide us with the quality of road infrastructure we are entitled to as tax payers. This goes beyond personal narratives; this is about securing a safer environment for the thousands of residents relying on these roads daily. Please sign this petition to press for the changes our community deserves.
