Every hurricane season, disabled Floridians face dangerous barriers — from inaccessible evacuation buses to shelters without power or medical accommodations. These gaps in planning put lives at risk and leave too many people behind when disaster strikes.

Accessibility isn’t a luxury: it’s survival. With more than 4.5 million Floridians living with disabilities, we need a disaster system that works for everyone.

We’re calling on the Florida Department of Emergency Management (FDEM) to:
✅ Provide accessible evacuation transportation statewide.
✅ Ensure all emergency alerts are available with captions, ASL, and accessible text.
✅ Guarantee that shelters meet ADA standards and have reliable power.
✅ Include disabled community voices in every stage of planning.

Before the next storm hits, FDEM must act to make disaster preparedness equitable and inclusive.
