Demand Access for Pet Owners to Seized Animals/please don't send any money!
The Issue
My beloved pet was taken from right outside my home, caged in an RSPCA van, and I was coerced into signing a document under duress. The RSPCA threatened that if I refused to sign, I would be barred from ever seeing my pet again. They promised that if I did comply, I could visit him at the hospital and he will be given treatment. My pet was suffering from a disease that was entirely treatable,( perhaps an ulcer which was treatable with antibiotics) I was not allowed to seek treatment for him with my chosen vet as the RSPCA officer took total control blocking access to even speaking to the vet. Devastatingly, no one at the hospital communicated with me, despite my repeated attempts to make contact before they euthanized my beloved companion. In their pursuit to build a case, they took the most drastic action of ending my pet’s life. They also did no tests on him at the vets for which I have solid evidence. It was a secret deal between the private vet and the RSPCA officer to get him Euthanised. I was not allowed to see my Pet despite trying several times to talk to the vet, as they later said it was the RSPCA who was their client, which means they were following their orders, which means the RSPCA officer had told them NOT to communicate with me. I was only allowed to see him at the last moment, even then I protested and asked for a treatment . However still the Nurse/vet stood there with an injection in her hand nodded her head and killed my pet. I believe the reason why I was not allowed to see him prior because they knew he was treatable.
This experience was not only traumatic but has left a lasting scar. I am left wondering if things could have been different had I been granted access to speak with the attending veterinary professionals or been allowed to have my personal vet oversee his treatment. How many other pet owners have faced similar injustices, being separated from their pets without proper dialogue or support?
The RSPCA, while serving as a critical organization for the welfare of animals, must uphold ethics that include transparency and compassion towards pet owners. When an animal is seized, the owners deserve immediate access, clear communication, and the option for treatments that align with their pets' best interests. The Euthanasia procedure was not followed as there was no verbal communication or preparation for this. They were bent ton killing my pet who was completely harmless.
Pet owners should not be alienated from their companions, especially in their times of need. We call upon the RSPCA and veterinary clinics to reform their practices, ensuring pet owners are given ample information, involvement, and access when their pets are taken for health reasons and taken to choice of their own pets, and allowed a second opinion.
Sign this petition to bring attention to this oversight and encourage policy changes that protect the rights of pet owners while maintaining the welfare of animals. Together, we can advocate for a system that respects both pets and their human families, ensuring dignity and fairness for all involved.
