The Issue

Residents of Cypress Grove in Moncks Corner, South Carolina are calling for immediate action to address a dangerous and long-ignored traffic safety issue at the intersection of Grande Tree Drive, Garrott Avenue, and Cypress Gardens Road (approx. 33.0795° N, ‑80.0410° W).

This intersection has become increasingly unsafe due to rapid residential growth, rising traffic volume, and outdated infrastructure that has not kept pace with development. Accidents are occurring with alarming frequency — at times averaging nearly one per week — placing drivers, families, pedestrians, and first responders at constant risk.

Community members have raised concerns for years, including requests made as early as 2023, yet meaningful action has not been taken. Repeated attempts to work through Berkeley County Infrastructure have resulted in delayed responses, unclear communication, and no comprehensive traffic study or public review of accident data.

We are formally requesting the following actions:

• A comprehensive traffic study of the intersection of Grande Tree Drive, Garrott Avenue, and Cypress Gardens Road

• A review and release of traffic accident reports for at least the last six years

• Identification and implementation of appropriate safety measures, including but not limited to traffic signals, signage, or roadway redesign

We are asking South Carolina State Representative Sylleste H. Davis and Berkeley County Infrastructure, including Chief Infrastructure Engineer Danny Thrower, to prioritize this issue and advocate for immediate evaluation and corrective action.

Our community should not have to wait for a fatal accident before safety becomes a priority. Responsible growth requires responsible infrastructure planning, and the safety of Cypress Grove residents must come first.

By signing this petition, we are urging our elected officials and county leadership to take swift, transparent, and decisive action to protect our neighborhood.
