Petition for a Royal Commission into the Australian Childcare Sector

To: The Honorable Prime Minister of Australia, The Honorable Minister for Education, and Members of Parliament

Subject: Urgent Call for a Royal Commission into Systemic Failures in the Australian Childcare Sector

We, the undersigned citizens of Australia, call upon the Australian Government to establish a Royal Commission into the Australian childcare sector.

The recent Four Corners investigation, Betrayal of Trust, has exposed serious systemic issues within Australian childcare services, including allegations of abuse, neglect, understaffing, and a lack of regulatory oversight. Whistleblowers have come forward with disturbing accounts of misconduct, highlighting the urgent need for government intervention to protect vulnerable children.

We believe a Royal Commission is necessary to:

1. Investigate systemic failures – Examine how regulatory bodies have allowed these issues to persist despite numerous warnings from parents, educators, and industry insiders.

2. Hold wrongdoers accountable – Ensure that those responsible for neglect, abuse, and exploitation in the sector face legal consequences.

3. Strengthen regulatory frameworks – Review and improve current childcare regulations to ensure the highest safety and care standards for Australian children.

4. Ensure transparency and oversight – Address conflicts of interest, funding misuse, and the influence of profit-driven motives over child welfare.

5. Protect whistleblowers and educators – Implement stronger protections for those who report misconduct to prevent retaliation and ensure a culture of accountability.

6. Improve accessibility and affordability – Examine the financial burden on Australian families and ensure that quality childcare is both affordable and accessible to all.

We urge the Australian Government to take immediate action by launching a Royal Commission into the Australian childcare sector. Our children deserve to be in safe, nurturing environments, and Australians have a right to transparency and accountability in industries responsible for their care.

We stand together in demanding justice and reform.

Sincerely,

Tashu Singh
