Demand a resolution in K-9 Ember's Investigation from the Attorney General

The Issue

For the last two years, I, a resident of Gloucester County, New Jersey, along with others, have waited patiently for answers regarding the suspicious death of K-9 Ember, the dog employed by our County Fire Marshal, on August 12, 2022. Ember was not alone when she perished but a personal dog to the fire marshal also died under suspicious circumstances. Our patience, however, is wearing thin as we are yet to receive any update nor conclusion from the Attorney General concerning this ongoing investigation. Our County Fire Marshal is an authority figure amongst us, and for the circumstances surrounding Ember's death to remain unaddressed is an insult to our community's trust.

While not every investigation yields immediate results, it is distressing when there are no updates or apparent progress in such serious cases for two years. This leaves our community in uncertainty and fuels suspicion around those in high-ranking public service positions. In a democratic nation, transparency is key, and justice cannot exist where it lacks. This situation also leaves our residents at risk, as those in this investigation also are in charge of keeping our residents safe. If they can’t be held to a standard it sends a dangerous message.

New Jersey alone in the last 6 months has faced 2 serious political corruption trials one with Senator Menendez and the other being the infamous George Norcross who this case is very connected with, so connected that it was removed from the Gloucester County Prosecutor due to numerous conflicts of interest.
This growing distrust in authority isn't isolated to just New Jersey Nationwide, 69% of Americans have dropped in trust towards those in authority over the last 15 years (Pew Research Center, Trust in Government Series, 2008-2020).

Therefore, we, the residents of Gloucester County, demand the Attorney General's Office provide an update and thorough resolution on the investigations related to K-9 Ember's death. We want to ensure that our law enforcement agencies are held accountable and transparent in their actions. It's crucial for the nourishment of trust planning for the future of our community. The respect for Ember's memory and justice served is our utmost priority. Sign our petition to help us achieve transparency and accountability.
