More than just a name, Kevin Davis was a beloved husband and a soon-to-be-father to a loving family. Kevin lived his life surrounded by family and friends who loved him deeply, among them, a very close friend of mine, Alyssa. Pregnant with their next child, Alyssa is now left to navigate life without her partner, while caring for her children, and dealing with the traumatic loss.

The tragic circumstances of Kevin's death demand attention and justice. On his own property, Kevin was shot by Caytron Kerr who now claims self-defence. This claim has been accepted by the police department, who have decided against pursuing charges. However, there is profound public disbelief considering the violent nature of this incident, and it raises significant concerns about the accuracy of this decision.

We are not alone in our doubts. In fact, the National Research Council has found that perfectly identify a self-defense situation in homicides can be profoundly difficult due to the inherent biases, various eyewitness testimonies, and other contextual factors.

A life has been lost and a family shattered. Refusing to re-investigate the circumstances of Kevin’s death might inadvertently shield a criminal from justice. It is not only a matter of justice for Kevin Davis, but also a statement of our public stand against such potentially preventable tragedy.
