Demand a reduction in Canadian oil production.

The Issue

I am asking you to sign two petitions. This one and the one for the government of Canada (e-4225). This is the link to the government petition:

We need to rid ourselves of hydrocarbon. The impact of climate change is already evident around the world. Many Canadians tough that we would be excluded from the damage due to our northern position. The last two years have proven that theory wrong with heat domes, flooding and hurricanes.

So why is the government allowing the oil industry to start new tarsand mines?

Because of the lobbying by the Canadian oil industry that thinks the demand for its oil will continue to increase for the next 10 years.

Several partners in Alberta oil have seen the future and sold their investment in Canadian oil.

As the world migrates to clean energy, Canadian oil will become non-competitive, affecting our economy.

Canada can continue to be a major energy provider if we switch to clean energy and hydrogen.

In 2022,  17% of the new car sales were electric. Half of those went to China. resulting in a reduction in their oil consumption, despite having a 3% GDP growth. This shows how quickly oil consumption could drop with the current mandates for electric vehicles.

Canada should not invest in new tarsand mines but focus on clean energy and sequestration. A Canadian company (Proton Technology) can extract hydrogen from old oil fields and water at a lower cost than electrolysis and be CO2 negative. One UK company is converting CO2 into baking soda. An American company extract hydrogen from natural gas using microwaves and create useful carbon products rather than CO2.

Let's tell the minister responsible for the Canada Energy Regulator to reduce the oil production licenses in line with the decline in Canadian emissions.
