LEODY TAVERAS OUT AT HOME PLATE AFTER VIDEO REVIEW AS ORIOLES SQUANDER CHANCE TO TIE GAME

ARLINGTON -- Leody Taveras didn’t have an answer when asked if he successfully avoided a tag at the plate that would have resulted in the Orioles scoring the game-tying run in the ninth inning on Friday night at Globe Life Field.
“I didn’t see, honestly,” Taveras said. “I couldn’t tell if I was safe or not.”
Replay officials stood by home-plate umpire John Libka’s out call on the field. That was the pivotal play as the Orioles fell to the Rangers, 2-1, to open a three-game series against two teams in the thick of the playoff race. Orioles manager Craig Albernaz remained baffled by the call at the plate afterward.
“I don’t know. I don’t understand how it stands, though,” Albernaz said. “It’s either confirmed or overturned, you know? There was pretty blatant evidence of where the glove was, and it’s either you have him tagging him or you don’t have him tagging him. The stands call to me was pretty frustrating because there’s enough cameras and there was a perfect view of the play to have it either confirmed or overturned. But the stands thing was really, really frustrating.”
To add to the frustration is the loss came on a night in which starter Shane Baz had his best stuff, throwing his first career complete game (in eight innings). Baz retired 15 of the first 16 batters he faced and came within one strike of throwing an immaculate inning in the fifth.
