As a former volunteer at the Taylor County Humane Society, I have witnessed firsthand the dire conditions of this current facility. The building is dark and depressing, making it difficult for volunteers to navigate and provide proper care for the county's sheltered dogs - most of whom are victims of abuse and neglect. 

The current state of affairs is unacceptable. Volunteers work tirelessly to clean kennels under challenging conditions. However, their efforts are hampered by the limited space and poor layout of this facility. They need larger kennels to accommodate the rescued dogs comfortably, proper offices where they can meet with prospective adoptive families in a welcoming environment, storage rooms for donated foods, blankets and towels as well as cleaning rooms for daily laundering.

This call is not just about improving working conditions; it's about providing better lives for these animals who have already suffered too much. A new facility would allow them to increase their capacity to rescue more dogs from abuse or neglect in Taylor County.

I urge local authorities in Taylor County, WV to prioritize this issue by allocating funds towards building a new humane society facility that meets modern standards of animal care.
