As of September 7, 2024, gun violence has killed over 11,600 and injured over 22,400 people so far in 2024. There have been 385 mass shootings, and gun violence is the NUMBER 1 CAUSE OF DEATH FOR KIDS & TEENS IN THE UNITED STATES.

Since 1791, or 233 years ago, the United States has had a special right called the 2nd amendment, which is the right to bear arms, or in simple words, the right to have guns.

This is a uniquely AMERICAN right, but it is being ABUSED.

CHILDREN, TEENS, AND YOUNG ADULTS ARE LOSING THEIR LIVES EVERYWHERE THEY GO: SCHOOL, UNIVERSITY, THE MALL, CLUBS, AND PRETTY MUCH ANYWHERE ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF.

AND THIS IS DISPROPORTIONALLY AFFECTING YOUNG PEOPLE AND THOSE WITH DISABILITIES, AND IN SOME CASES, PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES WHO ARE ALSO YOUNG.

This week (September 1-6, 2024), we lost a 15-year-old to a fight in a school bathroom in Maryland and a 14-year-old AUTISTIC kid during the fatal Apalachee High School mass shooting, done by a troubled 14-year-old who simply had a bad life that resulted in the loss of 2 kids and 2 staff. These two kids, that are DEAD now, BARELY had enough time to enjoy this world, and their entire teenage years and adulthood were ripped away in seconds, just like that. That 14-year-old autistic was looking forward to going to Disney World, but thanks to widely available assault weapons that have NO PLACE ON OUR STREETS and nonexistent red flag laws that allowed someone to purchase an assault weapon for his troubled son that was ALREADY VISITED BY THE POLICE FOR POSTING SCHOOL SHOOTING THREATS ON DISCORD and that clearly had NO BUSINESS having a GUN, that future was forever destroyed for his innocent soul.

And guns (MILITARY STYLE MASS ASSAULT WEAPONS) are being used to kill and injure children, teens, and young adults at an alarming rate for very simple problems and mistakes that they make, their own mental illness/depression, for revenge, for hatred against others (especially those of another race/gender/LGBTQIA+/those with a disability) and it just keeps going ON AND ON AND ON.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Most of these are happening in states where gun laws are LAX or NONEXISTENT, especially Georgia, where there is NO AGE RESTRICTION to buy an assault weapon, where the mass casualty occurred, just further proving that IT'S THE GUNS.

If we want to END GUN VIOLENCE ONCE AND FOR ALL, our one and ONLY option is to BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS AND INTRODUCE UNIVERSAL RED FLAG LAWS. WE CAN KEEP THE 2ND AMENDMENT, BUT WE MUST AMEND IT BY BANNING ASSAULT WEAPONS ONCE AND FOR ALL AND REQUIRING UNIVERSAL RED FLAG LAWS.

KAMALA HARRIS AND TIM WALZ WANT THESE LAWS TO BE PASSED. THEY BOTH BELIEVE IN KEEPING THE 2ND AMENDMENT AS IT IS IMPORTANT TO MANY, BUT THEY WANT IT TO BE AMENDED BY BANNING ASSAULT WEAPONS AND INTRODUCING UNIVERSAL RED FLAG LAWS. I BELIEVE IN THAT TOO.

NO ORDINARY PERSON NEEDS MORE THAN A PISTOL OR PEPPER SPRAY FOR PROTECTION. NOBODY.

Keep in mind: These laws were written in a time where AR-15s and weapons like that that are being used in today's mass shootings DID NOT EXIST, and they were NOT MEANT for situations like these!

9/6/24: *This petition was previously titled "Repeal the 2nd Amendment". That goal is unrealistic, so I changed this petition for simply banning assault weapons and introducing universal red flag laws, so that no one in a position like that troubled 14-year-old kid will EVER be able to purchase/have a gun like that to live out their wild and DEADLY fantasy again. The 2nd is important, and MUST stay, but we can do better!
