We, the residents of Postmasburg and surrounding communities, are calling for fair, transparent, and sustainable development from the mining activities that take place in our area.

For many years, large volumes of iron ore and other minerals have been extracted from Postmasburg and transported elsewhere for processing. While this wealth leaves our town daily, many local families continue to struggle with unemployment, poverty, and lack of basic opportunities.

Our community deserves more than temporary jobs and short-term projects. We deserve long-term economic development that benefits current and future generations.

We therefore call on mining companies, Transnet, and the Postmasburg Municipality to work together with the community to create real, lasting change.

We demand the following:

1. Establishment of a Local Processing Facility

The development of an advanced mineral processing and beneficiation facility in Postmasburg that goes beyond basic ore preparation, including higher-level value addition such as smelting, refining, or other downstream industrial processes This must not be limited to basic crushing or sorting operations, but should aim to create skilled employment and long-term industrial development within the community. to ensure that value is added locally and that more skilled and sustainable jobs are created.

2. Community and Municipal Benefit

Meaningful community and municipal participation in any new processing facility, with profits directed towards local development programmes that support food security, housing, education, and winter relief. No child in Postmasburg should go to sleep hungry or cold.

3. Transparency in Mining–Municipal Agreements

All agreements, financial commitments, and development plans between mining companies and the municipality must be made public and easily accessible to residents.

4. Independent Community Oversight

The establishment of a community oversight structure to monitor implementation, report progress, and ensure accountability.
