As a South African citizen witnessing the distressingly high rates of inflation, unemployment, and inequality, I am deeply concerned about the alleged manipulation of our currency, the Rand. It is clear that such action, if indeed occurring, could greatly exacerbate our socio-economic challenges. Prosperity, justice, and fairness demand transparency in all financial dealings.

The effects of potential currency manipulation on our economy are too severe to ignore. Inflation in South Africa is currently at an all-time high, with consumer prices increasing by 4.6% year-on-year in May 2021. Moreover, our unemployment rate now stands at a record 32.6%. Yet, it is the inequality that is most disheartening, with the Gini coefficient, a measure of income disparity, standing at 0.63 - among the highest in the world.

Given these circumstances, I believe it is pivotal that the President of South Africa commission a thorough investigation into potential Rand manipulation. Such an investigation would bring transparency to our financial system, could reveal the extent of any malpractice, and provide the impetus for rightful action in pursuing those responsible.
