This week, a puppy was found near a dumpster outside an animal hospital in Henderson, Nevada.

The dog, now named Treasure, had a broken leg, signs of a prior jaw injury, and had ingested rocks. He was severely underweight. Rescue officials at Hearts Alive Village say that so far, investigators have no leads on who left him or who his owner is.

Whoever abandoned Treasure there didn't just walk away. The injuries he arrived with point to prolonged neglect and abuse, and authorities are starting from scratch.

Henderson Police and Henderson Animal Protection Services need to treat this as the serious crime it is. Animal cruelty is not a minor offense, and our community deserves to know that abandoning a suffering animal has real consequences.
