Demand a Formal Investigation into RealPage Utility Management Practices in New York State

The Issue

Hello,

I am a resident in upstate New York, specifically in the Albany and Rensselaer county regions. I am among the many tenants whose lives have been severely impacted and disrupted by the illegal practices of bad corporate landlords using property management software like RealPage Utility Management. These companies are using rental property software that fixes rent data and rent ledgers, leading to unjust evictions and rent increases that are causing undue stress and hardships for tenants.

Many of us have been forced into homelessness or have had to spend hundreds of dollars in legal fees fighting against these corporate landlords who are violating antitrust laws. The mental health issues among affected tenants have increased significantly due to this situation. We've also seen an uptick in violence on the properties we rent, and numerous physical, mental, psychological and chronic disorders stemming from the stresses caused by these practices.

We are calling on our neighbors, fellow tenants, and the New York State Attorney General, local Legislators and elected officials in the State Senate and Assembly, and the US Department of Justice (DOJ) to take action. Other states within the US have already filed lawsuits against such rental cartels; it's time for New York State to follow suit.

We demand that a formal investigation be launched into these violations by RealPage Utility Management and other similar companies. Furthermore, we urge corporate landlords using RealPage Utility Management system to halt evictions of tenants and rent increases until this matter is thoroughly investigated and the livelihood of tenants are preserved and reinstated.

This issue affects not just us but potentially millions across our state who may be unknowingly subjected to similar practices. Let's stand together against this injustice - sign this petition today!
