Demand a Formal Apology for the Mockery of Jesus Christ at the Paris 2024 Olympics

The Issue

As a practicing Catholic, I was deeply appalled and distressed watching the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The event disgraced one of the shrines of Christian faith: the Last Supper of Jesus Christ. They involved indecorous acts performed by men posing as women, dancing provocatively in front of a young child. This behavior not only disrespects Christianity, but could also have a detrimental impact on the well-being and world view of children watching.

What I found even more disturbing was the official response from the Olympic organization which attempted to justify the performance as a celebration of 'community tolerance'. Their disregard for the spiritual sentiments of an estimated 2.3 billion Christians worldwide (Pew Research Center, 2015) is a blatant reflection of their insensitivity. It raises questions about the integrity and honesty of a global platform that is supposed to unify nations and individuals.

This offense crosses the line into hate speech, blasphemy, mockery, and can also be perceived as promoting obscene content. As a Christian community, it is our duty to ensure our faith and beliefs are respected. By coming together, we can halt this act of religious degradation and make certain such incidents do not repeat in the future.

We urge the Olympic Organization to issue a formal apology for this offensive act against Christianity and take concrete steps to prevent any form of religious mockery from taking place under their supervision in future events. Your signature is not just a petition, it's a message that we value respect and dignity for all religions. Please sign and share this petition to make your voice heard and take a stand against religious disrespect.
