Living Meadow Farm is proposing a plan to preserve the Town Farm property in Easthampton, focusing on maintaining the existing hayfields for regenerative agriculture and supporting the 100% grass-fed beef operation of the local Chicoine Family Farm. The proposal prioritizes long-term soil stewardship over solar development, aiming to keep the land active for future generations.
In under 2 weeks we collected over 1,000 signatures demonstrating that the Easthampton community cares about this issue. We ask for your continued support of the vision proposed by Living Meadow Farm Nonprofit for the Town Farm in Easthampton.
Western Massachusetts is losing valuable farmland to development, making it harder for small farms to survive and for new farmers to get started. Living Meadow Farm offers an opportunity to protect farmland while creating a community resource that supports agriculture, education, and local food production.
The proposal would create a regional agricultural learning hub where people of all ages can learn about farming, food systems, and land stewardship. It would provide educational programs, agricultural training, community events, and opportunities for local residents to connect with locally grown food.
As the RFP process moves forward, I encourage the City elected officials to engage the Easthampton community including farmers, town residents, conservation groups, and agricultural leaders. State Representatives along with organizations such as CISA, MDAR, and American Farmland Trust, could provide valuable input.
Living Meadow Farm has the potential to strengthen our local food economy, preserve open space, support farmers, and serve future generations. I respectfully ask that you support a thoughtful process that recognizes the long-term value of this unique community asset.
