Rev. Patrick Hoare was removed from St. Matthew Catholic Church in Charlotte after the church found signs of inappropriate behavior with minors. The Vatican just confirmed his removal.

But here’s the problem:
There’s still been no criminal investigation. No charges. No justice.

Hoare was put on leave back in 2019 after serious allegations came out—including one from Pennsylvania about abuse of a minor. A church board found “a semblance of truth” to the claims. But instead of a police investigation, everything stayed behind church walls.

This cannot stay hidden.

St. Matthew is one of the largest Catholic churches in the U.S.—thousands trusted this man. If a child was harmed, they deserve justice in a court of law, not just a quiet removal.

We’re calling on Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and the District Attorney to investigate these allegations immediately. The Diocese must release all records and cooperate fully.

The church did its part. Now the law must do the rest.
