The Issue

Growing up in the vibrant city of Hollywood, Florida, I've always dreamt of seeing our community flourish and rise to its fullest potential, standing proudly alongside our renowned neighbors, Miami and Palm Beach. However, instead of progressing and thriving, our beloved city has been left in the shadows, largely due to complacency and lack of fresh leadership.

The City Manager plays a critical role in the growth and development of Hollywood, shaping policies and making decisions that impact every resident and business owner. Currently, there's a push for Raelin Storey, Assistant City Manager since 2007, to fill this pivotal position. While Storey’s service to our city is commendable, the role of City Manager is far too important to be handed over without thorough consideration.

We urge the Mayor and City Commission of Hollywood to refuse this internal promotion and initiate a transparent, competitive national search for the next City Manager. This search should prioritize finding a candidate with visionary leadership, a diverse perspective, and innovative strategies to propel Hollywood into a prosperous future.

Consider this: neighboring cities that have seen significant growth and revitalization have done so under new dynamic leadership. Fresh leaders bring new ideas, much-needed objectivity, and the ability to critically assess current systems without any previous biases.

Facts and statistics show that cities undergoing rigorous national searches for leadership roles have enjoyed greater economic growth and community satisfaction.

This is a turning point for Hollywood. This decision will determine whether we move forward with renewed energy or continue to be overshadowed by the successes of nearby flourishing cities. For the future of our city, for the dreams of our youth, and for the well-being of every community member, we must choose a leader who is committed to Hollywood’s success.

Your signature is a call for a brighter, more prosperous Hollywood. Please sign this petition to demand an open and competitive national search for our next City Manager.
