Demand a Change in Leadership in the Los Angeles Unified School District

Demand a Change in Leadership in the Los Angeles Unified School District
The Issue
We have witnessed an unresponsiveness within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), as numerous families and faculty members grapple with the tragic effects of relentless wildfires. With fires ablaze, countless students have lost their homes or have been impacted in distressing ways. Yet, while surrounding districts have sensibly closed their schools, the current superintendent, Alberto M. Carvalho, has chosen to keep ours open.
The callousness of this decision not only disrespects the traumatic experiences of those affected, but it also shows a disturbing lack of care for both faculty and students' wellbeing. Our community needs a leader who puts safety and empathy at the forefront of their decision-making, and who values the holistic health of the faculty and students. We are currently being led by those seemingly oblivious to our reality, our suffering, and our pressing needs.
While we understand education's importance, we believe it must not be pursued to the detriment of our community's broader well-being. Thousands of families have been fighting a greater battle, dealing with the aftermath of the wildfires, a catastrophe the current administration has blatantly ignored. The faculty and the students should not have to go to school during a time like this.
We deserve better. We demand the replacement of the current LAUSD Superintendent, Alberto M. Carvalho, seeking a leader who truly cares, listens, and prioritizes our rightful needs in the face of adversity. These are challenging times, but true leadership shines brightest during adversity. Please, sign this petition to promote a change in our leadership. Let's find a superintendent who will stand by us, not against us.
