OUR DEMAND

We, the B.Sc. Nursing students and interns from nursing colleges across Uttar Pradesh, respectfully request the concerned authorities to introduce a fair, standardised and regular monthly internship stipend of ₹20,000 for eligible B.Sc. Nursing interns during their compulsory internship.

This is a collective concern of B.Sc. Nursing students across Uttar Pradesh, particularly the 2022 batch, and is not limited to any single college, university or institution.

WHY SHOULD B.SC. NURSING INTERNS RECEIVE A STIPEND?

B.Sc. Nursing internship is not merely an academic formality. It is an essential and compulsory phase of professional clinical training through which students transition from classroom-based education to practical patient care.

During internship, students undergo extensive clinical postings and, under supervision, participate in:

• Patient assessment and monitoring

• Vital-sign monitoring

• Medication administration and nursing procedures

• Patient care and hygiene

• Maintaining patient records and documentation

• Assisting in clinical procedures

• Ward and clinical responsibilities

• Emergency and critical-care postings

• Coordination with doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals

• Rotational and night duties, wherever applicable

CLINICAL DUTIES AND 8-HOUR WORKING SHIFTS

B.Sc. Nursing interns are required to perform approximately **8-HOUR CLINICAL SHIFTS** during their compulsory internship.

During these **8-HOUR DUTY HOURS**, interns remain continuously engaged in patient care, ward responsibilities, clinical procedures, documentation and other assigned clinical duties.

In many clinical settings, interns are required to perform these duties **WITHOUT SITTING THROUGHOUT THE DUTY HOURS**, depending on the nature and workload of the clinical area.

These prolonged working hours, continuous standing and clinical responsibilities require significant physical and mental effort.

Despite contributing their time, skills and professional responsibilities during this compulsory training period, nursing interns often receive **NO INTERNSHIP STIPEND**.

Therefore, providing a reasonable **₹20,000 MONTHLY INTERNSHIP STIPEND** is justified as financial support and recognition of the time, effort and professional responsibilities undertaken by B.Sc. Nursing interns.

INTERNSHIP IS COMPULSORY

Students are required to complete the prescribed internship as an essential component of their professional nursing education. It is not an optional training programme.

Therefore, students should not be expected to bear the entire financial burden of a mandatory professional training period without appropriate financial support.

FINANCIAL BURDEN ON STUDENTS

During internship, students may have to manage expenses related to:

• Transportation

• Accommodation

• Food

• Uniforms and clinical requirements

• Educational and professional materials

• Daily living expenses

For students studying away from their homes or belonging to financially weaker backgrounds, these expenses can become a significant burden.

A reasonable stipend would provide meaningful financial support during this mandatory period of professional training.

STRONG EVIDENCE: NURSING INTERNSHIP STIPENDS ALREADY EXIST

Our demand is not unprecedented. There are documented examples from central government institutions and government programmes.

1. AIIMS BHUBANESWAR — ₹13,150/MONTH

The official Standing Finance Committee minutes of AIIMS Bhubaneswar record approval of a proposal to enhance the stipend of B.Sc. Nursing students for the last six months of Final Year (Internship) from ₹500 to ₹13,150 per month.

The document also refers to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Order dated 06.07.2022.

This provides direct official evidence that a stipend for the B.Sc. Nursing internship period has been recognised in a central government institution.

2. AIIMS NEW DELHI — ₹13,150/MONTH

AIIMS New Delhi also revised the stipend of nursing interns from ₹500 to ₹13,150 per month.

This demonstrates that nursing internship stipend is already an established concept within central healthcare institutions.

3. ESIC — ₹22,000 NURSING INTERNSHIP STIPEND

A Government of India/Press Information Bureau record regarding the Nursing Internship Programme in ESIC Hospitals states that the programme was intended to provide fresh graduate nurses practical work experience in real healthcare settings under supervision.

The official record mentions that a consolidated stipend of ₹22,000 could be provided for the duration of the internship.

This demonstrates that a ₹20,000 level of financial support for nursing internship has already been considered under a central government healthcare programme.

4. DELHI GOVERNMENT NURSING INTERNS — ₹13,150/MONTH

The Delhi Government has also recognised and revised the stipend for nursing interns in government hospitals to ₹13,150 per month, demonstrating continued government-level recognition of financial support during nursing internship.

5. TELANGANA — GOVERNMENT NURSING STIPEND FRAMEWORK

The Government of Telangana has issued government orders concerning enhancement of stipends for nursing students in government nursing schools and colleges, demonstrating that state-level nursing stipend policies can also be established through government orders.

EVIDENCE FROM UTTAR PRADESH

The demand becomes even more relevant because Uttar Pradesh has recognised internship allowances for other healthcare trainees.

BVSc & AH INTERNS

The Uttar Pradesh Government has recognised an internship allowance for veterinary graduates, with the allowance reported to have been enhanced from ₹4,000 to ₹12,000 per month in 2026.

MBBS & BDS INTERNS — ₹25,000/MONTH

On 25 August 2026, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved an increase in the stipend of eligible MBBS and BDS interns in government medical colleges, institutions and medical universities from ₹12,000 to ₹25,000 per month.

We welcome this decision.

At the same time, it demonstrates that Uttar Pradesh recognises the importance of financial support during compulsory professional healthcare training.

We therefore respectfully request that B.Sc. Nursing interns should also receive appropriate consideration under a formal stipend policy.

WHY ₹20,000 PER MONTH?

The demand for ₹20,000/month is not arbitrary.

It is based on existing stipend examples:

• AIIMS Bhubaneswar – B.Sc. Nursing Internship: ₹13,150/month

• AIIMS New Delhi – Nursing Internship: ₹13,150/month

• Delhi Government – Nursing Interns: ₹13,150/month

• ESIC Nursing Internship Programme – ₹22,000 consolidated stipend mentioned in official PIB record

• UP MBBS/BDS Internship – ₹25,000/month

OUR DEMAND – UP B.SC. NURSING INTERNSHIP: ₹20,000/MONTH

Therefore, ₹20,000/month is a reasonable and evidence-based demand, rather than an arbitrary amount.

OUR SPECIFIC DEMANDS

We respectfully request the concerned authorities to:

1. Introduce a ₹20,000/month internship stipend for eligible B.Sc. Nursing interns completing their compulsory internship across Uttar Pradesh.

2. Establish a uniform state-level Government Order specifying the stipend amount, eligibility, duration and payment mechanism.

3. Ensure regular and timely payment of the stipend directly to eligible nursing interns.

4. Give appropriate consideration to the 2022 B.Sc. Nursing batch, so that students completing their compulsory internship are not left without financial support during this mandatory training period.

5. Consider central institutions and other state models while establishing a fair and sustainable stipend policy for B.Sc. Nursing interns in Uttar Pradesh.

6. Allow nursing student representatives to formally present the collective representation before the concerned authorities.

COLLECTIVE REPRESENTATION FROM 23 NURSING COLLEGES

This is not an individual demand or the demand of a single college.

We are working to bring together the collective representation of **23 NURSING COLLEGES ACROSS UTTAR PRADESH**, particularly with participation from the **2022 BATCH**.

From each participating college, we aim to collect:

**COMMON APPLICATION/REPRESENTATION + A4 SHEET CONTAINING SIGNATURES OF PARTICIPATING STUDENTS**

These college-wise documents will be compiled into one collective state-level representation.

The purpose is to demonstrate that this is a genuine and collective concern of nursing students across Uttar Pradesh — not an issue raised by only a few individuals.

The consolidated representation will be submitted to the concerned authorities, including:

OUR RESPECTFUL APPEAL

We respectfully request the concerned authorities to examine this genuine concern and initiate the necessary process for establishing a **₹20,000 MONTHLY INTERNSHIP STIPEND** for eligible B.Sc. Nursing interns across Uttar Pradesh.

The available evidence demonstrates that nursing internship stipends have already been recognised by central institutions, Government of India programmes and state governments.

Therefore, our request is **not for preferential treatment**.

We are requesting the Government of Uttar Pradesh to consider B.Sc. Nursing interns within a **fair, transparent and evidence-based internship stipend policy**.

**WE ARE ASKING FOR RECOGNITION, DIGNITY AND REASONABLE FINANCIAL SUPPORT DURING COMPULSORY PROFESSIONAL TRAINING.**

A fair internship stipend would help students manage basic expenses, focus on clinical learning and complete their compulsory professional training with greater financial security.
