LibreOffice (http://www.libreoffice.org) is a Free/Libre and Open Source Software that can replace proprietary office suite successfully. By default, it uses the Open Document file format, an international standard (approved as the official standard by the British government in July 2014 and adopted by many public administrations worldwide: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDocument_adoption), but LibreOffice can read and write many other file formats too.

Rather than (or at least: in addition to) preinstalling proprietary office suite that the customer will have to pay for later on, it is in the public interest to promote such alternatives and have LibreOffice preinstalled on any new computer. Doing so, the computer manufacturer would serve the interest of its customers at no costs.
