Scrap the system of giving marks for attendance

Scrap the system of giving marks for attendance
The Issue
I mailed this letter to the VC of Delhi University but have recieved no response so far.I need the support of second and third year students studying in Delhi University to make sure this petition is taken seriously and we get rid of an unwanted system.

Respected Sir
This is to inform you that we, second year students of Delhi University, feel troubled by the practice of allotment of marks based on the student's attendance percentage. The concept of provision of marks for attendance does not work well with the non FYUP batches of undergraduates in the Delhi University.
We don't see any need for being given incentives for attending college. College education is a student's choice. The student is genuinely interested in the course and hence has opted for it and so it should be the students prerogative to attend college.
We do not object to the minimum attendance criteria but the marks given for attending lectures does not seem rational.
Marks are an indication of the students capability and understanding of the curriculum which has no substantial relation to the number of days one attends college.
Many students cut down on their participation in fests and outstation events because they are given one third attendance for the classes they miss.
People who are genuinely interested in the lecture will attend college anyway while the others who attend college for these 5 supposedly “free marks” end up disrupting the teaching-learning process. The students no longer come to college because they want to learn in the lecture but because they don't want to lose marks by not attending the same.
The FYUP has done away with this ordeal and it's time to scrap it for the others as well. There is a reason that DU scraped this criteria for the FYUP and the two senior batches should not be deprived of the benefits. The rule that applies for the FYUP regarding the mark division can apply to us as well.
We would be obliged if you consider the problems noteworthy and the suggested changes necessary.
Thanking You
Yours Faithfully
