Cancellation of DTUs Endterm Exams

The Issue

The students of Delhi Technological University are writing this petition in the view of the ongoing COVID19 Pandemic to cancel the Online End Term Examination in order to curb the mental stress.
The Delhi Government predicts 5,50,000 COVID19 cases by 31st July . Such alarming statistics and the general plight of life in lockdown have deteriorated the mental health of many of us.
The Educational Institution should give proper weightage to the opinion of its students, but the latest order by DTU Examination Department regarding “Planned” Implementation to conduct Online Examination is certain to create a hostile situation, unequivocally. The implementation demands uninterrupted internet access for 2 continuous hours which is not possible for many, especially those from a weaker economic background or those living in remote areas. University students with presence across the nation have no access to books, laptop, internet and webcam (all essential for examination) as they left for their native places as soon as the nationwide lockdown was imposed, expecting it to be brief.
In addition, for the students who are currently Interning, it will become difficult to leave internships in between and prepare for the Online Examinations.
The University proclaims that those who are unable to appear for online exams should wait and give them offline at the University itself. This is highly unfeasible due to the uncertainty surrounding the current scenario. It is unlikely that the university will open before October, which will lead to a gap of at least 5 months since the online classes were held. In addition, it will impact placements of the incoming final year students, as well as disrupt the curriculum of the upcoming semesters.
In the light of the Pandemic when the Mental Health is being stressed too much, students are more prone to stress and overthinking about the uncertainty of their Internships, Placements, Interviews and preparation for higher studies. In such an aggravating situation, the university asking students to appear for examinations is uncalled for.
Since most of the Universities have cancelled the current semester examinations in consideration of the above factors, Delhi Technological University, being a Premier University itself, should consider the cancellation of End Term Examination for Semesters II, IV and VI. Rather, University shall Grade students on the basis of Projects/Assignments/CWS, Grade Point of the Previous Term and Mid Term Exams held in March 2020.
It is our sincere request to the Government of Delhi and Examination Board of DTU, to consider evaluating the students on the basis of Mid Term Examinations written in March/ Projects and Assignments Submitted / Previous Exam Results.
Thank You.
