The Issue
The Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET) 2020 was held on 08th Sep 2020,as AIIMS Delhi has conducted NORCET 2020 for recruitment of Nursing Officers in various AIIMS Institutes. There was 80 percent quota for females in this nursing officer posts. The decision to introduce the 80 percent quota for women was taken by the Central Institute Body (CIB),on 27 July 2019.The decision was taken after a discussion "on the issue of appropriateness and requirement of female nursing staff in a number of departments/specialised wards vis-a vis patient comfort and care. “Nursing is a profession within the health care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain or recover optimal health and quality of life. But AIIMS Nurses Union is now on indefinite Strike against 80:20 gender based discrimination along with their other demands like pay hike. Sir, the present COVID pandemic has brought health to the forefront of every discussion and during this emergency our Corona warriors are on strike with their demands.
In a Institution like AIIMS where Male Nurses are already more in numbers as compare to female nurses these Male Nurses are more busy in politics and other affairs rather than their profession. Nursing is not only related to medical science but also a social behavior science and such type of aggressive behavior and events like strike with unusual demands during this pandemic are irrelevant. These Male nurse are not spoiling their profession but also spoiling the future of Male Nurses as well. In AIIMS the strength of male Nursing staff is already more in numbers than female nursing staff. Also in most of the cases attendants with the patients are females and these female attendants feel quite comfortable with the female nursing staff than male nursing staff. So female nurses are not only competent in their profession but they are good in social behavior as well. They are also good in giving care to patients than male nursing staff as also “Females are naturally gifted to care as a mother.” Till now female nurses has maintained the dignity of this profession, but due to these Male Nurses the whole profession is spoiled now and the whole credit goes to union leaders of Nursing union. Now due to AIIMS Nurses Union indefinite strike patients are suffering, and irrespective of giving services for which they are being paid for, they are on strike. Also some of these Male Nurses has filed also filed a petition before Delhi High Court to stay 80:20 gender discrimination and due to this the second stage of counselling and appointment of new Nursing staff is on hold and public is suffering due to this indefinite strike of AIIMS Nurses Union. I am asking for you to support Female Nurses, as they have always given their best to this profession, and they have always maintained the dignity of this profession. Also Female Nursing staff was never indulged in such kind of politics. I am not against male nursing staff but they must avoid politics and should concentrate on their profession as due to such kind of things like indefinite strike only public will suffer. The goal of petition is to support female Nurses.
