Delay the Vote on Closing 3 Local Schools

The Issue

The decision to close Wilshire Elementary, Clear Springs Elementary, and Driscoll Middle School has dominated our community's conversation suddenly, without warning. We, the parents, were left startled, questioning where our children should next receive their education. Closure of schools is not a small matter; it is a decision that impacts our children's future and the vitality of our community.

In the United States, for example, research shows that educational continuation in a familiar environment increases a student's overall academic performance (source: American Psychological Association). By pushing this vote without considering the voices of parents and without providing us with time to prepare for such a significant transition, our children's education is being compromised.

Additionally, local schools are more than just landmarks; they are where our children grow, learn, and form lifelong relationships. They provide stability, a sense of community, and are central to our children's daily lives.

Therefore, we ask for a delay in the decision-making process for 2 years, allowing parents and community members more time to discuss  alternatives, prepare for possible outcomes, and ensure the best for our children’s future development and learning. A hasty decision may lead to regrettable consequences and mishandled transitions. Please sign this petition to support the deferment of the vote on closing our three local schools.
