The Issue

My son is part of the Class of 2026 at Gardena Senior High School, and for the past four years, he has dedicated himself, academically and socially, to this community. It is only right for him and his classmates to celebrate this milestone by walking the stage at their own school.

Unfortunately, the planned construction of a new football field at Gardena Senior High School is threatening this once-in-a-lifetime experience for my son and 299 other graduating seniors and their families. The construction is scheduled to begin in June, which will displace the graduation ceremony to an alternative location. This relocation poses several challenges, including financial expenses for parents, and the logistical challenge of securing a venue that can accommodate 300 seniors and their families.

We are asking the Gardena High School administration and the decision-makers involved in the construction project to reconsider their timeline. We request that they delay the construction until after the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2026. This delay would not only honor the commitment and achievements of these students but also maintain unity by allowing this significant event to happen within the school they have called home for four years.

Graduation is a rite of passage, a time for families to unite and celebrate academic achievements and future possibilities. Moving the ceremony due to construction negates its significance by separating the graduating class from the place they have spent formative years.

We understand the importance of the new football field, but we believe a short delay will not undermine its long-term benefits. Meanwhile, the delay will enormously impact the graduating class and their families by preserving tradition and honoring their hard work.

Please sign this petition to help us ensure that the Class of 2026 can graduate on their own field, surrounded by familiar walls filled with memories and achievements. Let's come together to make this happen for them.
