The Issue

The Issue:
The City of Dryden is currently advancing the Van Horne Landing project, a massive initiative that will dictate the future of 10 acres of prime Waterfront Mixed-Use land. While strategic development is vital for our city's growth, making irrevocable, long-term decisions regarding our most valuable public waterfront asset just weeks before a municipal election is fundamentally wrong.

Why This Matters:

  • Generational Impact: The disposition and development of the Van Horne waterfront will permanently alter public access, our community landscape, and local infrastructure. Once the land is committed, there is no going back.
  • The Democratic Deficit: The municipal election on October 26, 2026, is the public’s opportunity to weigh in on the future of our city. Rushing contracts, land sales, or zoning changes during an election season denies voters their voice and denies the incoming Council the ability to perform proper due diligence.
  • Community Oversight: A project described by the city itself as "one of Dryden's most significant development opportunities" requires the ultimate mandate from the people.

Our Demand:
We, the undersigned residents of Dryden, call upon the current Mayor, City Council, and Administration to immediately suspend all binding agreements and land dispositions related to the Van Horne Landing Waterfront Development. We demand that all final approvals and partnership contracts be deferred until the newly elected 2026 City Council takes office. Let the voters decide who oversees the future of our waterfront.
