Many of us hold fond memories tied to the Canadian Football League (CFL). Whether it was going to games with family through successive generations, rallying for our city/province during the playoffs or supporting it through lean times, these moments are priceless and cherished. The CFL stands as a distinctly Canadian sport, celebrated for its thrilling plays, wide-open fields, and 'no lead is safe' finales. Unlike the NFL, the CFL offers something uniquely ours, and it must be preserved as such.

Recent discussions about altering CFL rules have sparked concern among lifelong fans, players, and stakeholders of the league. There is an urgent need to pause these proposed changes until a comprehensive consultation takes place, involving all relevant parties, including team owners, notably those of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, season ticket holders across the nine CFL clubs, and the Canadian Football League Players’ Association (CFLPA).

The CFL is not just a game; it is a cultural institution woven into Canada's fabric. It is critical that decisions impacting the rules and structure of the game are made with careful consideration, reflecting the voices and interests of those who hold the league dear. By doing so, we can ensure the CFL remains true to its roots, delivering the excitement and passion that fans have come to love over generations.

Perceptions that the CFL might transform into a mirror of "NFL North" are troubling. Our league should not surrender its identity or abandon the elements that differentiate Canadian football from its southern counterpart. Maintaining these unique characteristics is vital for the continuation of the league's legacy and preserving the sportsmanship and originality that define it.

We, therefore, implore the CFL authorities to delay any rule changes until a full and inclusive consultation is conducted. The views and opinions of all stakeholders must be considered to guarantee that any future developments are in the best interest of the game, its players, and its loyal fan base. Let's stand together to protect our beloved CFL.
