Continue to allow dogs on the beach in Del Mar

Continue to allow dogs on the beach in Del Mar

The Issue

For decades, Del Mar residents have walked their dogs on the beach off leash. Recently, responding to the complaints of one woman, Del Mar has began enforcing leash laws, disadvantaging hundreds of Del Mar residents. The proposal is to retain current restrictions but also allow dogs off leash before 8:00 am from the 20th Street lifeguard station north and dogs on leash north of Seagrove Park. This gives people who are concerned about dogs running free lots of protected beach to the south, requires dogs to be off the beach during peak tourist times, and permits dog owners to spend time on the beach when others are usually not using the beach. It also clarifies rules and practices and avoids putting Del Mar's lifeguards and ranger in a confrontation with residents. Sign only if you are a Del Mar resident or beach user.
