Defund EPD and allocate funds to Cahoots

0 have signed. Let’s get to 25,000!

The Eugene Police department is currently allocated close to 68 million dollars a year. Cahoots (Crisis Assistance Helping Out On The Streets) has a budget of 2 million dollars a year and respond to 20% of the calls placed to the Eugene Police Department. The training to be a Cahoots employee is the same length as that of a police officer. Cahoots employees are non-violent, they do not carry guns and they are trained to provide all of the following services:

-Crisis Counseling
-Suicide Prevention, Assessment, and Intervention
-Conflict Resolution and Mediation
-Grief and loss
-Substance Abuse
-Housing Crisis
-First Aid and Non-Emergency Medical Care
-Resource Connection and Referrals
-Transportation to Services

Currently, Cahoots employees make an average of $18/ hour. An average Eugene Police Officer makes $53,000 a year. I propose we as a city donate 30% of the funding from the EPD to Cahoots. Help us spread the word, this is an immediate change that we can make in our community to decrease police brutality. The Eugene Police killed two people within the past year. This is unacceptable. Cahoots is better equipped to de-escalate harmful situations in a peaceful way and they deserve more money to do so.
