This is one reason why the Coalition for Wild Horses and Burros is against using PZP Pesticide (https://www3.epa.gov/pesticides/chem_search/reg_actions/pending/fs_PC-176603_01-Jan-12.pdf) on America's WILD horses and burros. The PZPed herd on Assateague looks bad. The wild mare looks to be in severely poor condition and the foal looks abnormally wobbly. You can see the photo here: https://twitter.com/TheAnneNovak/status/732352784624803840 We've heard the herd that has been PZPed for decades as part of the PZP Experiment is suffering and at risk of inbreeding.
The public wants the truth. Is there an increase of inbreeding on Assateague Island where they have been experimenting with PZP for decades? https://www.researchgate.net/figure/227658234_fig5_Figure-5-Increase-in-average-inbreeding-in-the-Assateague-Island-National-Seashore-MD
The public would like to know if the birth defects and foal deaths are being reported.
The public is reading the PZP Fact sheet and all the citations referenced herein: http://protectmustangs.org/?p=8749
Does PZP stop roundups? No. Just look at all the bands of wild horses who lost their families and their freedom because the advocacy is weak. For example, they have rounded up (gathered) at Beaty's Bute, Deer Run, Pryor Mts. and Fish Creek. When BLM wants to take them off they will--because the advocacy is spineless.
Does PZP stop slaughter? No. Truckloads of horses going to slaughter are on the rise.
PZP has been used as one big distraction to divide the advocacy, dangle out the carrot for grant money to "gather data" and further the BLM plans to wipe out America's herds according to the Salazar Plan.
Back in 2009, the Washington Post explained the SALAZAR PLAN which says, "At the same time, the government would seek to sterilize or control the reproduction of enough animals on the range so that the birthrate is 3,500 foals a year. That would equal the adoption rate of the wild horses and burros, resulting in no net growth of the wild herd. Under the proposal, the costs for the wild horse and burro program would start decreasing by 2019." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/07/AR2009100703237.html
Keep in mind that a lot of wild foals die before they reach 18 months old in the wild and their horrid plan would ruin natural selection aka survival of the fittest.
How about fighting for America's wild horses and burros to live in freedom? Real freedom.
They use a tiny fraction of public land and deserve it.
