Defund and Restructure the Environmental Protection Agency

Defund and Restructure the Environmental Protection Agency

The Issue

For too long, I have been witnessing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) overstepping its boundaries. It deeply concerns me, as well as many others, that the scope of their influence has exceeded what was originally intended. The EPA was created with the noble goal of protecting our environment, but its powers appear to have extended far beyond this mandate, often with devastating consequences for businesses and individuals alike.

Defunding and restructuring the EPA would not mean abandoning our responsibility to the environment. Rather, it provides an opportunity to create a more efficient and less intrusive system in our society.

In recent years, the EPA’s budget has ballooned. For instance, in 2018, the EPA had a budget of approximately $8.8 billion (1). The question to be asked: Is this enormous sum really achieving substantial environmental results or could these funds be put to better, more efficient use elsewhere?

Not only do these behemoth federal agencies cost us in monetary terms, they also hold back American businesses with suffocating regulation. A report from the Competitive Enterprise Institute suggests that federal regulations cost the economy over $1.9 trillion a year (2). As a society valuing freedom, we need to question whether this regulatory burden is truly the right path.

We implore our representatives to critically reassess the role of the EPA. It is high time that we explore more effective and less intrusive methods of safeguarding our environment. If you feel the same, join us in this cause and sign this petition.
