URGENT UPDATE ON BRUCE
We received an unexpected federal court ruling today in Bruce’s case.
A hearing had already been scheduled for next Wednesday, but the court issued its ruling today without first holding that hearing.
The court denied emergency relief and lifted the stay that had been protecting Bruce.
We are appealing.
SPARC’s counsel has already filed a notice of appeal. He has also sent a letter to Ventura County counsel asking the County to agree to a stipulated order that Bruce will not be killed while the appeal is pending.
The County has been asked to respond by noon tomorrow.
This is a frightening and heartbreaking moment. But it is not over.
Right now, the most important thing the community can do for Bruce is ask Ventura County to choose restraint, compassion, and basic humanity while the appeal proceeds.
Please email the Ventura County Board of Supervisors and the County Executive Officer tonight or tomorrow morning.
Ask them to support one simple request:
Please do not allow Bruce to be killed while the appeal is pending.
