Tasmania has Australia’s best transgender laws but the State Government refuses to rule out weakening them.

Tasmania has set a global standard for recognising trans and gender diverse people, and protecting them from discrimination.

But the state’s Attorney-General, Elise Archer, refuses to rule out weakening the state’s gold-standard laws and the state Liberal Party Conference wants them repealed.

We call on the Premier Peter Gutwein to publicly declare Tasmania’s gender laws have had a positive impact on the lives of trans and gender diverse people, have not had any negative impacts, and that the Government will not weaken them in any way.

The Tasmanian Law Reform Institute has endorsed our gender laws. It’s time for the Government to do the same.
