President Trump is preparing to sign an executive order that would create a public list targeting sanctuary cities and states. His goal is to shame and isolate local governments that choose to protect immigrant communities rather than serve as extensions of federal immigration enforcement.

Cities like Philadelphia passed sanctuary policies to ensure that no one lives in fear when seeking help from law enforcement. These policies save lives, strengthen public safety, and protect the dignity of immigrant families.

By forcing a federal list of so-called “sanctuary jurisdictions,” Trump is trying to punish cities that uphold their values. His targeting puts immigrant families at risk, invites harassment, and undermines local control over policing and community safety. 

We must reject this attack. We must stand with Philadelphia and defend the right to govern without federal intimidation.
