Tell Governor Hogan & the General Assembly: Defend Maryland’s Right to Clean Water!

This petition had 1,591 supporters

Tell Governor Hogan, Senate President Miller, and House Speaker Busch not to back track on clean streams, a healthy Potomac, and a restored Bay!

We have the plans in place to defend your right to clean water. The Polluted Runoff Fee law helps make those plans a reality by helping counties raising local dollars to fund local projects like tree plantings, community greening, and trash and litter reduction.

But again, Maryland's local waters have been caught in the political crosshairs. We can't let uninformed politicians roll back progress on our path to clean water!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Marylanders, we know that so much of what connects us to our neighbors downstream are the important waterways that flow through our communities. From Big Hunting Creek in the uplands of Frederick County to St. Inigoes Creek down in St. Mary’s County and all across the Potomac Watershed, clean water is central to our health, our economy, and our quality of life.

But, the future of clean water is again under threat! Efforts to repeal, weaken, or stall important water protection legislation have the support of powerful interest groups and uninformed politicians. If successful, the repeal would halt critical funding and slow progress toward achieving required pollution reductions.

We urge the Maryland General Assembly to stay the course in funding the restoration of community waterways; maintain the Watershed Protection & Restoration Program’s polluted runoff fee.

Tell your State Officials that the future of Clean Water for your families and generations to come matters! Protecting the network of waterways that make up the Potomac River Watershed starts in your local communities. Over 1,400 jurisdictions around America have implemented clean water solutions with these funding mechanisms-- Maryland should be exceptional but never the exception when it comes to having healthy waterways!

Your State leaders need to hear that you expect them to join you and your fellow clean water advocates in the fight for clean water!
