Millions of American citizens are forced to choose between buying groceries and paying rent every month. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 27% of working-age adults and 49% of children received some form of government assistance in 2023. Our current leadership has explicitly expressed intent to cut funding to these programs. Statista.com reports that more than 1.1 million American lives have been lost to COVID-19, a pandemic that was worsened by the spread of misinformation and media censorship propagated by Donald J. Trump. Many government agencies are suffering budget cuts, which limit our access to clean and safe food, water, air, and medication. Reproductive rights are being stripped from women, gender-affirming care outlawed for transgender and non binary people, marriage equality threatened, birthright citizenship contested, and a facility established for those found guilty of committing any of the various actions that President Trump considers to be "criminal." Even if you aren't affected by this now, you will be.

If we who didn't and don't support Trump continue to stand idly by, we will be subject to a second American Great Depression that will end in a second Holocaust, if not a third World War. In a couple decades, we, too, will be burdened by the weight of the loved ones that we lost because we didn't take action when fascism knocked at our door.

I am advocating for the government of blue states to hold an emergency vote to secede from a sick and dying Union that no longer remembers its purpose. In signing this petition, we are showing the world that we will not tolerate the ideation of slavery and genocide. Signing this petition brings us- the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free- one step closer to Lady Liberty's warm embrace.
