Defend California's Privacy Protections

The Issue

Congress is considering a federal bill called the American Privacy Rights Act (APRA) that would override California’s strong privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act and the Delete Act. These laws give us the right to know what data companies collect, delete the pre-existing data, and prevent gathering more data.

If APRA passes, it will replace these protections set by the California Consumer Privacy Act with weaker national rules and prevent states from creating stronger privacy laws in the future. The California Privacy Protection Agency, Governor Newsom, and other leaders are urging Congress to set a national floor for privacy.

Throughout the whole country, it would be in our best interest to implement the California Consumer Privacy Act nationwide. Rather than confining the privacy regulations to one state, people throughout the U.S. will have their data deleted and prevented from being sold elsewhere.

We must protect California’s right to lead the nation in privacy. Sign this petition to demand that Congress let California keep its strong privacy protections.
